We’ve had a great final term in Year 6, packed full of exciting activities and memorable moments. The children have worked incredibly hard, showing fantastic effort, resilience, and teamwork in everything they've done. From creative projects to preparing for the next big step into high school, it's been a term full of learning, fun, and achievement.
Year 6 SATS
A big focus this term was preparing for our Year 6 SATs. The children showed great maturity and independence, identifying the areas they wanted to improve and asking for support when they needed it. It was brilliant to see them taking ownership of their learning and working together to build their confidence. When the time came to sit the tests, they showed incredible resilience, determination and focus – we couldn’t be prouder of the positive attitude they brought to the whole experience.
Ipad showcasing
This term, the children have continued to develop their digital skills through a range of exciting projects using the iPads. They created impressive digital art, recorded their own podcasts, and planned creative storyboards to support their writing. The iPads have really enhanced their learning across the curriculum, giving them new ways to express their ideas, collaborate with others, and build confidence with technology.
Liverpool trip
To support our learning in art and history, we took a fantastic trip to Liverpool. We visited Crosby Beach to see Antony Gormley’s striking ‘Another Place’ sculptures, which really brought our art studies to life. The children loved exploring the beach, playing football on the sand, and enjoying a picnic together in the sunshine. We then visited the Walker Art Gallery, where we were inspired by a wide range of incredible artwork – it was a brilliant day full of creativity, culture and fun.
DT
In DT, Year 6 have been busy preparing for their exciting leavers’ banquet. As part of their project, the children explored a variety of foods, tasting different ingredients and thinking carefully about flavour, presentation, and dietary needs. It was great fun watching them try new things and make thoughtful decisions as they planned their own dishes. We’re really looking forward to seeing (and tasting!) the final results at the banquet!
Pottery Week
During Pottery Week, we took a closer look at the history of Tunstall, comparing how it looked 100 years ago to how it is today using Google Earth. We explored the heritage of Royal Stafford pottery and discussed the importance of the pottery industry in our local area. The children then designed and created their own potbanks, showcasing their creativity and understanding. Their amazing pottery creations were a true reflection of the key skills they’ve developed over the years – a brilliant combination of art, history and hands-on learning.
Sports Day
Sports Day was a fantastic event, filled with energy, teamwork, and plenty of smiles. Every child took part with enthusiasm, and there were some truly impressive finishes as they raced to the line. The relay races were a real highlight, with brilliant cooperation and cheering all around. Lots of well-deserved stickers were handed out, and we’d like to say a big thank you to all the parents who came along to support – your encouragement meant a lot to the children and helped make the day even more special.
During our visit to the library in Stoke, the children enjoyed listening to a captivating story that they absolutely loved. They also had the chance to explore the wide range of books available and settle down for some independent reading time. It’s always wonderful to see their enthusiasm for reading and watch their excitement grow as they discover new authors and stories. We also learned about a fantastic summer reading project that the children can get involved in, which will be a great way to keep their love of books alive during the holidays.
Transition
The children have now experienced their transition days at high school and are extremely excited for this next chapter of their journey – and so are we! It has been wonderful to watch them grow and mature over the year, developing into confident, capable young people ready for the challenges ahead. The Year 6 staff are incredibly proud of each and every one of them and wish them the very best of luck as they move on to high school. We know they will continue to sparkle and achieve great things!
